Student SectionThe Student Section is comprised of those preprofessional or graduate college students who affiliate with both AAFCS and TAFCS by paying appropriate annual dues. Assistance with membership dues is available through our HUGS program funds. These funds are also available for other designated incentives approved by the TAFCS Board to promote and encourage Student Section membership. The Chair of the Student Section is elected at the TAFCS Annual Meeting, and begins a one-year term on the TAFCS Board of Directors following the election. The primary duties of the TAFCS Student Section Chair include the following:

  • Serve as representative to the Board for the Student Section.
  • Serve on the TAFCS Annual Meeting Program Committee.

Funds are available to assist Student Section members with their AAFCS membership dues. These funds are also available for other designated incentives approved by the TAFCS Board to promote and encourage Student Section membership.   Student Membership Award

The Student Membership Award goes to the local Student Section chapter of TAFCS which increases their membership numbers from the previous year by the largest percentage over and above 20 percent. It includes one complimentary hotel room for two nights of our TAFCS Annual Meeting for use by the winning local Student Section chapter.

  TAFCS Student Scholarship 

TAFCS offers Student Scholarships annually to TAFCS student members. Award decisions are based on good academic achievement, a positive letter of recommendation, solid character, appropriate professional goals, appropriate preprofessional involvement, and financial need.  In order to qualify, students must:

  1. Be enrolled at a college or university in Texas.
  2. Be majoring in a program in a college, school, or department of family and consumer sciences or a program in one of the knowledge-based areas of family and consumer sciences.
  3. Be classified as a Junior student.
  4. Be a member of the TAFCS Student Section.

  Donna Culliton Scholarship 

Norma Dagley and Jaylie I.L Beckenhaurer are the scholarship chairs for the Donna Culliton Memorial Scholarship awarded by the North Texas Business Section. Information has been e-mailed with the application form to the college and university contacts for TAFCS.

To qualify for a $500 Donna Culliton Memorial Scholarship, applicants must fulfill the following:
      (1)  Be enrolled at a college or university in Texas .
      (2)  Be majoring in a program in a college, school, or department of family & consumer sciences or a program
              in one of the knowledge-based areas of family & consumer sciences.
      (3)  Be classified as a sophomore or junior.
      (4)  Be a current member of the TAFCS Student Section.
      (5)  Be registered to attend the 2008 TAFCS Annual Meeting 
 
Application form and transcipt(s) should be postmarked no later than February 1, 2008 to: Jaylie I.L.   Student Family and Consumer Scientist of the Year 

This award is determined by: career experience, career goals, grade point average in career field, future intentions and goals in TAFCS/AAFCS, personal interview scores, and research in the professional field. Refer to the award application for specific requirements.
